Questions & Answers
Q: What experience level should I be?
A: We have several different pieces of water. Some are challenging to the most experienced fly fisher while others, like the ponds and lakes, are great for learning and mastering the basics. With the diversity of difficulty we have, there is something for everyone.
Q: How physically demanding is the fishing?
A: You can make it as much of a challenge or as little as you want. If relaxing is your objective, you can enjoy a nice day on a lake, pond or on a drift boat excursion. If a back country hike is more to your liking, we provide several excellent trips.
Q. What are the fishing opportunities?
A. The Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina offer a multitude of species that can be accessed using various types of fishing. You can catch Brooks, Browns, Rainbows and native Southern Appalachian Brook Trout (a rare treat). Small Mouth Bass and Muskies can also be targeted. You can choose from ponds, to wading streams and rivers on private land, to drift boat fishing with professional guides on one of the many area rivers. All of our water is private and managed.
Q. Are children welcome?
A. Yes, we like teaching children to fly fish. With the ponds and lakes, it makes the learning quick and easy.
Q. Is tackle provided?
A. Rental gear such as waders, rods and nets are available. All guided trips include tackle and gear.
Q. What time of year is best?
A. Spring and fall are the most popular. But, the summer is excellent for dry and wet fly fishing as we still have cold water and cool mornings. In winter, snow rarely lasts more than a day or two and 60 degree day time temperatures are common. Fishing success ranges from very good to excellent.
Q. Are licenses required?
A. A license is not required for fishing on ponds and lakes. For other areas, a license can be purchased in many local stores. One day, three day, seven day and annual licenses are available for a nominal fee.
